Paperbabe Stamps Challenge ~ Frankie Doll

Good Morning wonderful people, I hope you are well, it has been a while, home life is pretty busy right now but I certainly found a bit of time to make something for the next challenge on the Paperbabe stamps blog, today...

It's an anything goes and I went a little Halloween crazy and created my very own Frankie Doll lol!

So, I started off by spritzing the canvas background with some scrumptious dylusions spray inks, yum!
I drew around my fabulous mini mixed media templates;
First the flick and fringe hair, I then mixed it up a bit and borrowed the fringe from the short and fringe templates, I love how easy it is to change.
Next was simply drawing the head and torso, I opted for the slim head shape, it's still my go to shape.

I painted the skin first, in a mix of green acrylics this could definitely be used for other spooky characters like a witch, zombie, I can't wait to get messy trying other multi coloured skin girlies!
I stamped her facial features using the mini doll face set, I opted for different coloured eyes(of course).

So, I painted gesso on some old old book pages, which I used to create the hand using the mini hand template and the same green paints as the skin. I also used this same paper for her stripy dress.
The Best Version quote sentiment stamp, I thought very fitting, rotfl! I heat embossed in orange embossing powder on tissue paper but it didn't quite disappear on the black stripes, shame.

Then it was just a matter of adding all those special finishing touches, like her stitching, the needle and thread in her hand and of course the very important neck bolts for receiving extra energy!!!(think I could do with some)

Well, I thought I would enter my mixed media piece to these current challenges, I was so pleased to discover these, it took some searching out, it's great to see the mixed media creativity growing!

Paperbabe Stamps Challenge #16 ~ Hair step by step Tutorial

Ok so we have a new challenge on the Paperbabe Stamps Blog all about hair,
yes, messy hair, funny hair, big hair so I went for inky hair... tee hee
I've created a little step by step tutorial for all those asking...
I do plan on more classes and videos, coming soon!
I thought I would have a go at using my brusho watercolour powders with perfect pearls spray with the cling film technique mastered by Helen in the Craft Stamper this month. I know I even had a chance to read this months mag too lol!
I so love this close up, how yum are those random colours and hints of sparkly pearlescence.
So to begin I placed my hair templates over my background piece to decide which area I would use.
tip: I use a little bit of pretty washi tape to keep the templates parts together, they can of course be mixed with each other but I find this so easy.
I've added the head and torso templates to arrange the sort of portrait I'm going for...
I used a pencil and started with template number 1, I've placed it at a slight angle and drew around, I've added little reference marks for the central line.
Next I drew the fringe, I have tape already on this piece for storage so it helps with this step too. Used same pencil.
Then I just needed to draw the face and the neck and shoulders.
Using some gesso watered down, not too runny but just enough to give a smokey finish. This next step will help to unify the background colour and give you a lovely surface to paint the face.
I used some matte acrylic paints to paint the skin tones. I've added shadows under the hairline and jawline, keeping the left side lighter as if the light is falling from the left.
Notice that I haven't painted the skin all the way down the torso just because I'm planing cutting a little paper top for this area.
I went in with a few tones of acrylic paint for my background, I didn't want it too dark but I did want it to frame the hair and make it pop.
I think it went dark... I literally added paint to my brush and mixed the colours on my paper.
I cut some of the surplus brusho background paper for my top and die cut a little scallop for her frilly trim.
Next is stamping the face, It's so easy to line up the individual images on the template first and stamp the two eyes together. Look... I'm reusing the fringe template but as a mask for stamping the eyes. I painted the whites of the eye next. I repositioned the face template to add reference marks for the nose and mouth.
I keep these post it masks on the index sheet of my stamp set to reuse again and again, who has time to cut those tiny things out every time? but they look funny in place like an unusual mask. I've stamped the ring of the iris in a grey ink.
For her eyes, I've used a water soluble green pencil and brought the colour out with a little water. I've used a brown pencil to add shadow and definition to the facial features. I've used my current favourite white posca pen to add white highlights.
Arty shot... I decided to ink the edges of her top with distress ink and added stitching to the hem of the trim.
I also used the brown pencil to add shadows to the hair behind her neck.
So here she is, I will most likely add a special sentiment... more on that next week. I've noticed too, how I must like long necks, they seem to appear on most of my portraits! lol!
Just a close up of the shimmeriness that's still present on her top reminds me of marble.
and in her hair YUM!

Well I have a busy week ahead as next week will be Paperbabe Stamps July release, I hope you pop by for sneak peeks starting Tuesday!

Enjoy a wonderfully creative Day!

Paperbabe Stamps Challenge #14 ~ Anything Goes

It's 'Anything Goes' over on the Paperbabe Stamps challenge today...
and I thought I should practice my art skills using the Mini Mixed Media Templates
I opted for the Loose Plait hairstyle, along with the head and torso templates.
The face was created using the Mini Doll Face Stamp set which was also used for the hearts, the dots on her lace collar, the circles and dots in the background... a set for many uses! Which is pretty great!
I painted my mixed media piece on a canvas board, it's not my favourite surface, I find the texture is very challenging, although from a distance this looks how I imagined it's meant to but not when it's close up! lol.
Dillon, my son has been eyeing up my stamps and templates and coming up with all sorts of creative ideas, bless him. He worked on this, with a little guidance from me on painting techniques etc... he was very pleased with the result, as am I, so I had to share really?

I would like to enter this into a few other challenges, like:

Thanks so much for stopping by, there's still time to enter my mixed media class giveaway... here!!! enjoy a wonderfully creative day!

Paperbabe Stamps ~ Mixed Media Templates and Mini Doll Face Stamps

We're introducing the new Paperbabe Stamps Mixed Media Templates over on the blog today, with a step by step tutorial.

Here's my painted piece.
I'm quite taken to watercolours right now, and couldn't resist a little play, her hair was created using rock salt on the wet paint and I had to leave it to dry before rubbing the salt away to get this lovely texture.
I've used posca white paint pen to add highlights to the facial features, the nose, chin, eyes, cheeks, the neck, hair well kinda all over then really!
I've painted the rest in watercolours and trimmed to 5x7 for a large card front, stamped a sentiment from the fabulous everything set. I should have thought about her pose before going ahead, I think I would have liked her face tilted slightly and her neck is really very long, but that's how we create hey?

Why not pop by the rest of the team blogs and check out their gorgeous projects...

If you leave a comment on the Paperbabe stamps blog for your chance to win the Mini Doll Face Stamp set and coordinating Mixed Media Templates.

Enjoy a wonderfully creative day, see you tomorrow for more introductions...
