Paperbabe Stamps Challenge #94 ~ Kitschy Cat

I had the best fun creating this for the current challenge over on the Paperbabe Stamps blog...
I started by drawing the cat head and chest fluff, with the bow from the Alice template set. I wanted to create a cat with the closed eye stamp in the set just so you can see it being used. I've moved the nose higher up on the face to show how it might squidge when the eyes are closed that way. Then stamped those yummy whiskers.
I was quite happy with just the head and chest when my daughter said quite matter of factually that is looked like a cat ghost which was not what I was going for, so, I then drew the sitting body part on another sheet and continued on.
I coloured the whole cat with copic markers(pic of pen colours below), the blush on the cheeks I used some coloured pencil as I felt it worked the best for a translucent look without bleeding into the base colour. Then I went around the whole image with dense black pen lines to give a real graphic almost cartoon look. I went for strong shadows and bright white highlights although they're not showing very clearly. The head piece is cut separately from the body, each mounted on adhesive foam to give dimension.
I couldn't resist a kitsch background for my cat, finding some gorgeous patterned paper in my now 'vintage' paper stash hahaha, that to me just oozes vintage possible cat lady wallpaper(no offence).
Here she is in a box frame, but had to take her out again to photograph as the glass reflected everything. This is what I love about the mixed media templates and stamps, you can take your creativity any direction you want, from arty to graphic and everywhere in between, I hope I've inspired you to have a go.

I thought I would also enter my project to these fabulous challenges...

Paperbabe Stamps Challenge #93 ~ Watercolour Girl

We've had a very busy May Bank holiday weekend, there was traditional maypole dancing, street dancing and all sorts, as well as races and carnival and fun fairs, but I managed to get a little creative time, finally, my studio is no where finished and my machine I've been waiting very patiently for arrived this week, yay, so I just need to set it up and I can try out some much needed laser cutting, Roger will be happy with his new friend(name still to be decided, lol)
ThiFortnight's challenge was a fun little sketch, I decided the tag on the sketch as the perfect mini canvas for my watercolour girl, and I love how the seam binding looks like it's meant to be a ribbon in her hair.
I have used the female face stamp along with only one ear, and the wavy central parting hairstyle. I used my own Daniel Smith watercolour custom palette, which just happen to have all my fave colours in.
The butterfly and sentiment were both heat embossed onto vellum, yum! fussy cut and stuck in place.
I also borrowed the freckles from the profile face, I used distress ink for a subtle look. You might just be able to make out the few leaves stamped in her hair too.
I have to admit it was totally inspired by this artist, as my mojo is still somewhat sluggish right now, and it's great to get a little creative kick.

Maybe you'll get a chance to join in the fun!
